چکیده

This paper presents two new approaches to remove blocking effect in low-bit rate transform coded images by using subband decomposition/reconstruction technique. They are designed to act as a supplementary post-processing step of the JPEG standard. Both approaches make use of the noise characteristic of each snbband to bound the maximum tolerable error and the smoothness of the restored images in restoring snbband images with regularization. One of them will also utilize the spatial activity of the restoring images to tighten the bounds. Computer simulations showed that the new adaptive objective functions could achieve a better restoration performance in terms of both subjective and objective measures than did other conventional objective functions.

Adaptive Image Dehazing via Improving Dark Channel Prior

The dark channel prior (DCP) technique is an effective method to enhance hazy images. Dark channel is an image with the same size as the hazy image which represents the haze severity in different places of the image. The DCP method suffers from two problems: it is incapable for removing haze from smooth regions, causing blocking effects on these areas; it cannot properly reduce a haze with a no...

An Adaptive Constrained Least Square Approach for Removing Blocking Effect

A13 STRACT This paper presents a new adaptive objective function based on the regularized iterative block reduction technique for low-bit rate transform coded images. Also, a better initial estimate for the regularization approach is presented. Two types of prior knowledge are used: the first type bounds the maximum tolerable error (roughness), and the second type restricts the high-frequency c...

Block Artifact Reduction by Optimization Utilizing Subband Decomposition

The block discrete cosine transform (BDCT) is extensively used for compression of image and videos. One of its disadvantages, however, is the blocking artifacts at the block boundaries at low bit-rates. Most previous techniques for removing block artifacts utilize low-pass ltering or projection-on-convex-set (POCS) concept that gives an iterative restoration. These techniques produce unnecessar...

Subband Adaptive Filter Exploiting Sparsity of System

This paper presents a normalized subband adaptive filtering (NSAF) algorithm to cope with the sparsity condition of an underlying system in the context of compressive sensing. By regularizing a weighted l1-norm of the filter taps estimate onto the cost function of the NSAF and utilizing a subgradient analysis, the update recursion of the l1-norm constraint NSAF is derived. Considering two disti...

Wavelet - Based Broadband Beamformers with Dynamic Subband Selection ∗

In this paper, we present a new approach for the design of partially adaptive broadband beamformers with the generalized sidelobe canceller (GSC) as an underlying structure. The approach designs the blocking matrix involved by utilizing a set of P -regular, M -band wavelet filters, whose vanishing moment property is shown to meet the requirement of a blocking matrix in the GSC structure. Furthe...
